For the last two months, users of Apple TV 4K, Samsung Smart TV, and several other platforms have had reasons to be frustrated. Disney+ – a service that should be a model of quality in streaming – has had serious issues with playing content in 4K HDR. Frame rate and dynamic range matching features have been malfunctioning, causing the picture not to always look as it should. And while one might wonder how such a large company could allow such a long oversight, today we finally have good news. The update of the Disney+ app to version 4.11.0 resolves all these issues – at least on Apple TV 4K and Samsung TVs.
Apple TV 4K is back on the throne
For many viewers, Apple TV 4K has long been the best device for watching streaming in the highest quality. The problem is that the recent weeks have undermined that status - it was enough to turn on any series in Dolby Vision to see a lack of refresh rate matching or incorrect HDR mode.
Samsung Smart TV has also breathed a sigh of relief
It's not just Apple device owners who can enjoy the improvement. Disney+ has also released an update for Samsung televisions, which are once again streaming in 4K HDR10. Just download the new version of the app and the problem disappears.
What’s next? We’re waiting for HDR10+
The whole story shows that the problems were related to preparations for the introduction of HDR10+ support. Disney has been testing this format for a long time, and it looks like its premiere is just around the corner. The question is, after what we’ve seen in recent weeks, will viewers trust the stability of the application?
If Disney learns from this, we can expect even more comprehensive support for modern image technologies. For now, the most important thing is that the platform finally works as it should – and that we can once again watch our favourite films and shows in the quality we pay for.
