Blizzard has released another major update for Diablo 4. Season of Death Awakening starts a new chapter following the events of the Lord of Hatred expansion and brings plenty of new content for all players. The developers have overhauled some key mechanics, added new endgame activities and expanded the seasonal rewards system. There are also changes implemented based on community feedback from PTR tests. The new season launched on 30 June and is available on all platforms.
New season brings powerful foes and a reworked endgame
The biggest attraction of Season of Death Awakening is Pandemonium Ruptures, new rifts appearing in the world of Sanctuary. Players will fight new enemies belonging to the Cult of Death, close dangerous breaches and earn special rewards for keeping them active as long as possible. Alongside the season comes an expanded Mythic Uniques 3.0 system, which offers much greater options for creating your own builds. Blizzard has also reworked the Horadric Cube, adding new options for upgrading gear. The developers have expanded the Solo Self Found mode too, aimed at players who want to progress a character without help from others. An important new feature is the full release of the Tower and Leaderboards system, which after the testing phase offers seasonal rankings and unique rewards. The update also includes numerous class balance fixes, gameplay quality improvements and changes prepared based on player feedback from public tests. Blizzard emphasises that the goal of the new season was to increase gameplay variety and encourage experimenting with new character configurations.
Blizzard lets you try the Warlock class for free
One of the biggest surprises of the new season is the free trial period for the Warlock class. Every player can try the new class without having to buy the Lord of Hatred expansion. Free access will last until 7 July, and any progress made will be retained if the expansion is later purchased. In addition, Blizzard has prepared a new Battle Pass with cosmetic rewards, special Twitch Drops events and seasonal challenges. Players can earn new mounts, pieces of armour and cosmetics available only in Season of Death Awakening. The update also includes further changes to the crafting system and the ability to modify selected attributes of legendary items. The developers also promise additional events and updates during the season. Everything suggests Diablo 4 is entering a new stage of development after the conclusion of the Lord of Hatred expansion's story.
Season of Death Awakening introduces new activities to Diablo 4, an overhauled Mythic Uniques system, Tower leaderboards and a free trial of the Warlock class. Blizzard hopes the expanded update will encourage both new and returning players to revisit Sanctuary.
