Apple is preparing significant changes in the upcoming iOS 27 and macOS 27 systems. The company wants to make a strong entry into AI and focus on features that could clearly outperform the competition, particularly in photo editing and the Siri assistant.
AI will change photo editing
A new feature will be the “Apple Intelligence Tools” section in the Photos app. This is where three key functions will appear:
Extend – extending the photo beyond its original frame
Enhance – automatic improvement of quality, light and colours
Reframe – changing perspective, particularly in spatial photos
The most exciting feature is expected to be Extend, which will allow users to “fill in” the missing parts of a photo using AI. In practice, this means something like generative image extension known from professional tools, but available directly on your phone.
New Siri as a chatbot
Apple is also working on a completely revamped version of Siri, designed to work more like a chatbot. Interestingly, it will use technology inspired by the Google Gemini models.
The new Siri will:
analyse user data and operate within apps
generate content and assist with tasks
handle more complex commands
have its own app with a history of conversations
Additionally, Apple is testing integration with external AIs, such as ChatGPT or Claude, which could significantly enhance the assistant's capabilities.
In iOS 27, Apple wants to go even further; Siri could replace the classic Spotlight search and become the central hub for system operations. There are also ideas for integration with Dynamic Island and a more “dynamic” interface.
Apple is clearly betting everything on AI in the upcoming systems. If the new features work out as the leaks suggest, iPhones and Macs could gain some of the most advanced photo editing and AI tools on the market.
