AirPods Max 2 officially. Apple is focusing on the H2 chip and lossless sound via USB-C.

Calendar 3/17/2026

Apple has presented the second generation of its flagship over-ear headphones – AirPods Max 2. Although the design visually remains true to the original, key changes have taken place inside the device. With the use of the H2 processor, the headphones have gained features previously known only from the smaller Pro models, as well as entirely new capabilities based on Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence.

H2 Chip

The biggest innovation in AirPods Max 2 is the H2 chip, which has replaced the ageing H1 unit. According to Apple, the new architecture has increased the efficiency of active noise cancellation (ANC) by 1.5 times compared to the first generation. The computational audio algorithms are now said to handle low frequencies, such as engine noise or chatter on a train, more effectively.

Along with the new chip for the headphones came smart features: Adaptive Sound, which smoothly switches between ANC and Ambient modes depending on the surroundings, and "Conversation Detection," which automatically mutes the music when the user starts speaking. The Voice Isolation mode has also been improved, which, using more sensitive microphones, aims to better filter out background noise during phone calls.

USB-C, lossless audio and support for creators

Apple has been forced to unify the charging standard. The Lightning port has been replaced with USB-C. Importantly, this port is used not only for power – when a cable is connected, the headphones support 24-bit lossless audio.

A new feature (not yet available in Poland) is also the Live Translation function, operating within Apple Intelligence, which allows communication in foreign languages directly through the headphones. For podcasters and vocalists, a studio-quality audio recording mode has been prepared, and the Digital Crown knob has gained a camera remote function, enabling remote shutter release on the iPhone. The headphones also received a Game mode, which minimizes delays in transmitting wireless signals on iOS, macOS, and iPadOS systems.

AirPods Max 2 headphones have been priced at $549 (2,499 zł). Orders can be placed from 25 March, and the product will be available for regular sale at the beginning of next month. The new generation is available in five colours: space, lunar glow, orange, purple, and blue.
