After months of dominating the box office and nearly a billion dollars in revenue, “A Minecraft Movie” finally debuts on streaming platforms. From Friday, 20 June, fans can relive the viral scenes — including the famous chicken jockey — this time from the sofa rather than the cinema seat. The film is available on Max (still the current HBO Max), and its premiere is one of the most talked-about events of the season.
Two versions to choose from – standard and with ASL translation
The Max platform offers not only the classic version of the film but also an edition with American Sign Language (ASL). The translation is provided by Sophia Morales, a deaf translator who brings a new layer of accessibility to the film for deaf viewers. This is another step towards more inclusive entertainment in Hollywood.
Star-studded cast in the pixelated world
Although the world of Minecraft is made up of blocky shapes and digital landscapes, the cast of the film is impressive. In the production, we will see:
Jack Black
Jason Momoa
Emma Myers
Danielle Brooks
Sebastian Hansen
and also Jennifer Coolidge, who – as always – steals the scenes.
Each of them brings their own style to this surreal adventure, creating a mix of humour, action, and nostalgic references to the iconic game.
Minecraft breaks records
Since its debut in cinemas, the film has earned over 951.51 million dollars worldwide. According to Box Office Mojo, it is the highest-grossing film of 2025 in Western countries. The production quickly transformed from a risky experiment into a true cultural phenomenon – meme-worthy, family-friendly, and wildly recognisable.
And what about the continuation?
For now, there is no official announcement of a sequel, but everything suggests that it is only a matter of time. In a conversation with Deadline, Warner Bros. co-heads, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, admitted that plans for the next installment are in progress.
When asked about possible continuations of “A Minecraft Movie” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (2024), De Luca replied with a smile:
“Maybe the ink hasn’t dried on the contracts yet, but it’s just a matter of time.”
