Apple is announcing a complete overhaul of Siri starting in 2024 as part of the Apple Intelligence package. The new version of the assistant is expected to become more contextual, intelligent, and akin to chatbots based on large language models. Initially, changes were expected to debut with the iOS 26.4 update. However, there are now reports of another delay. According to the latest report, some features may be rolled out over time, and certain elements may not reach users until the fall. This is another signal that the project is encountering technical difficulties.
Problems during testing
According to information from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple has encountered complications during the testing of new software. As a result, the company is expected to opt for a gradual rollout of features instead of a one-time release of a larger update. Some new features may appear only in the May release of the system, while more advanced changes may not come until iOS 27.
The planned upgrade is supposed to make Siri function more like modern AI chatbots. Instead of opening a separate app like ChatGPT, users could simply chat with the assistant within the system. According to previous information, the new Siri will use Gemini language models from Google, which exemplifies the scale of changes in Apple's approach to artificial intelligence development.
Delays suggest that Apple prefers to refine the technology rather than release an unfinished product. The modernization of Siri is one of the key elements of the company's AI strategy, which is why the pressure surrounding the project is immense. For now, users have to wait for further updates and official confirmations of the release date.
