Apple has prioritized safe colors in its Pro models for years. Silver, black, gold, and muted shades have dominated the offering. The situation changed with the iPhone 18 Pro in Cosmic Orange, which turned out to be a sales success. Now the company may take it a step further. According to industry reports, a deep, saturated shade of red is being tested, which could become a distinguishing feature of this year's generation.
Bolder color strategy
The new red is expected to be one of several options considered by Apple. The company has been experimenting with different color palettes long before a launch, so a final decision may not be made until closer to the debut. Sources suggest that the color could be added alongside existing options rather than replacing a previous hit. Apple already has experience with red iPhones as part of the (PRODUCT)RED initiative, which supports the fight against HIV and AIDS. However, this time it is unclear whether the new shade will be part of that campaign or a completely separate style variant.
New color and structural improvements
It is worth noting that some users of the previous version in orange reported issues with the paint's susceptibility to scratches and discoloration. If Apple decides on a deep red, changes to the finish of the casing are possible to avoid similar comments. Besides the color, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to receive several significant hardware upgrades. Among them are mentioned a sleeker Dynamic Island, a camera with an adjustable aperture, a new generation modem with better satellite connectivity, and a faster processor.
Will red become the new symbol of Pro?
Apple rarely makes radical stylistic changes in the Pro line, so a potential debut of intense red would be a clear signal of a change in strategy. If the company replicates the success of the Cosmic Orange version, the new color could become one of the most recognizable variants of this generation.
