TCL has started rolling out a major update for older TVs with Google TV. The new software adds support for Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode and enhances the Dolby Atmos FlexConnect audio system.

Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode is coming to older TCL TVs

A new update designated as firmware v643 is rolling out to TCL TVs from 2023, 2024, and 2025 equipped with the MediaTek Pentonic 700 chip. The most significant new feature is support for Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode, which is an image mode designed for a faithful representation of the creators' vision. The mode replaces the previous Dolby Vision Dark and is intended to offer a more natural picture when watching movies in a dark room.

The update also fixes the issue with IMAX Enhanced DTS:X audio in the Disney+ app. After installation, users can easily switch between Dolby Atmos and DTS:X in compatible productions, including Marvel movies and the upcoming Tron: Ares. TCL is also expanding the capabilities of the Dolby Atmos FlexConnect system. The TCL Z100-SW subwoofer can now be connected to wireless speakers, creating a more comprehensive alternative to soundbars.

Older models are getting features from the 2026 TVs

The new update aims to bring some older TCL models in line with the features available in the company's 2026 TVs. Support will be provided for the series X11K, C8K, QM8K, C7K, QM7K, C6K, QM6K, C855, C805, C955, and X955. TCL has already shown that it actively develops its older TVs, adding, among other things, Android TV 14 and HDMI 2.1 Quick Media Switching.
