Stranger Things on UHD Blu-ray. Netflix makes an exception for the hit.

Calendar 3/27/2026

Netflix is doing something it almost never does. One of its biggest productions, Stranger Things, is getting a physical release in a complete collection. This is a big change for a platform that has relied almost exclusively on streaming for years.

25 discs and a complete collection for fans

The new "Complete Series" release will include all seasons of the series and will be issued on as many as 25 Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray discs. There will be two versions: standard and deluxe. The latter will include additional materials, such as a book, posters, and bonus items for collectors. The premiere is scheduled for July, and the set will be available in the USA and the UK, among other places.

This is an interesting move, as Netflix has avoided physical releases for years. The platform did start as a DVD rental service, but over time completely transitioned to streaming. The release of Stranger Things is an exception, not the standard. This time, however, the creators of the series wanted to ensure its preservation for years, regardless of the platform. This could be important for fans who prefer to own their favorite productions rather than just having them on a subscription.

Best picture and sound quality

The UHD Blu-ray version will offer 4K, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos for newer seasons, meaning the highest possible picture and sound quality. This is something that even streaming does not always provide in such a stable form. Older seasons will also receive an upgraded quality, though with different audio formats. Questions arise whether Netflix will move further in this direction. Fans are already suggesting more titles that could be released on discs. For now, everything depends on the success of this release. If sales are good, it is possible that we will see more of such collections.

The release of Stranger Things on UHD Blu-ray is a big event for fans and collectors. Netflix is taking a rare step beyond streaming, offering a physical version of one of its biggest hits.

This could be a test that shows whether there is still a market for such releases.
