Samsung SmartThings supports Ikea devices and simplifies smart home.

Calendar 4/22/2026

Samsung is expanding its SmartThings platform and has just announced support for Ikea devices based on the Matter standard. This is a significant change for users, as until now the integration of both systems was more complicated and required additional hardware.

Less Equipment and Simpler Setup

Thanks to support for Matter-over-Thread, up to 25 Ikea devices can now operate directly in SmartThings without the need for an additional Ikea hub. This means a simpler setup and fewer issues when connecting different systems. Among the supported devices, we find, among others, light bulbs, motion sensors, temperature, humidity, and air quality sensors, as well as a remote with a dial that allows for convenient lighting control. Everything has been integrated directly into the SmartThings app, which is intended to ensure more stable performance and easier home management.

Matter is still not perfect

Although the Matter standard was supposed to solve the compatibility issue between brands, in practice, not everything works perfectly. Ikea devices previously had issues with so-called "disappearing" from the network, and the fact that Samsung had to prepare additional solutions to improve stability shows that the technology is still evolving. On the other hand, for users, this means a real improvement in functionality and a more accessible way to build a smart home without significant expenses.

The integration of SmartThings with Ikea is a step in the right direction for the entire smart home market. Less equipment, simpler connections, and greater compatibility are things that users have been waiting for a long time, even if the Matter standard still has a bit of work to do.
