As reported by insider-gaming, Sony has recorded another significant sales achievement related to the PlayStation 5 console. The latest financial report indicates that in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, the company sold approximately 8 million units of PS5, which allowed it to surpass the barrier of 90 million consoles sold globally. At the same time, Sony points out that year-over-year sales are down by about 1.5 million consoles, as the results in the corresponding quarter of the previous year were higher. Despite a slight slowdown, PS5 remains one of the biggest hardware successes in the history of the PlayStation brand.
Sony boasts new data
In addition to impressive console sales, Sony has also revealed new information about the entire PlayStation ecosystem. The total sales of games on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 have reached 97.2 million copies, and this figure includes titles added to the consoles as well as productions for PlayStation VR. At the same time, the user base of PlayStation Network is growing – at the end of the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, there were 132 million active accounts using the service, which represents an increase compared to the same period a year earlier.
The data shows that despite the slower pace of hardware sales, the activity of players and software sales remain a strong point for the PlayStation brand.
