Philips has just started the process of updating its Google TV models from 2023 and 2024, upgrading them from Android 12 to Android 14. This is the same version of the system that is factory-installed on this year's 2025 models.
Update initially only via USB
As reported by the Toengel blog, new software appeared at the end of April, but only in the form of a file for manual installation via a USB drive. However, users have now begun receiving firmware as a standard OTA update, automatically installed.
What does Android 14 bring?
Although Google skipped number 13, Android 14 is not a huge revolution. However, it introduces several useful features and improvements in performance, security, and accessibility. Among the previously announced features are among others. Energy Modes and support for Picture-in-Picture (but not for streaming applications). The update also lays the groundwork for a new smart home control panel in Google TV.
More and more frequently, new features are delivered to Google TV directly from the cloud, but compatibility depends on the version of Android in the television – which is why the update matters.
Models Included in the Update
The update is being rolled out to Philips Google TVs from 2023 and 2024. Models from 2025, such as the currently tested Philips OLED810 by FlatpanelsHD, come with Android 14 as standard, although most new devices from the manufacturer are already running on Titan OS instead of Google TV.

It is worth noting that Android 14 is also appearing on other manufacturers' devices. Sony has already begun a similar rollout, and Google has updated Chromecast to the same version.
