Philips makes a surprising decision. In the 2026 models, the company completely abandons Google TV and switches to its own Titan OS system. This is a significant change that may affect both the features and the convenience of using the televisions.
End of Google TV and Greater Control
Philips explains the decision with several reasons. Titan OS is supposed to be lighter, faster, and less demanding on hardware, and also gives the company greater control over the development and appearance of the system. The financial aspect is also significant; having its own system means a larger share of revenue, such as from advertising or content. The change even includes top models, including the OLED series, which shows that this is not an experiment, but rather a complete strategy shift.
However, the transition to Titan OS has its downsides. The biggest drawback is the lack of Google Cast, which is a standard feature in many TVs. Sure, AirPlay will be available, but Android users will have to rely on alternative solutions that do not always work perfectly. The app library is also smaller, although we can find major services like Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video. However, some popular apps and features for gamers are missing.
Titan OS develops features and focuses on content
The new system, however, has its strengths. Philips is developing features such as personalized recommendations, watch list, and a sports section with live events. The system is also designed to better integrate content from various platforms and show where certain material can be viewed. There are plans for further features, but the question arises whether the company will deliver them quickly or if users will have to wait years.
Resigning from Google TV is a bold move. Philips gains more control, but at the same time risks losing the convenience and features that users have become accustomed to. Titan OS has potential, but its success will depend on how quickly it makes up for shortcomings and develops its ecosystem.
