Mini LED TVs could use less energy and generate less heat in the future. South Korean company DB GlobalChip unveiled Nebula AI technology designed to improve backlight efficiency. According to the company, internal tests managed to reduce a TV's operating temperature by as much as 26% and energy consumption by 5%!
DB GlobalChip is working on new Mini LED backlight driver ICs. Their key feature is the integration of a microcontroller (MCU) and a power management IC (PMIC) into a single chip. The solution also uses AI algorithms with learning capabilities designed to optimize backlight operation and reduce energy losses.
Cooler TVs and lower electricity bills?
During internal tests the manufacturer recorded a 26% drop in TV operating temperature and a 5% reduction in power consumption compared with solutions using traditional chipsets. It’s worth noting, however, that the company did not disclose a detailed testing methodology. So it’s unclear under what conditions those results were achieved or whether similar benefits will show up in finished TVs. DB GlobalChip plans to begin testing the new chips with potential customers as early as the end of 2026. Commercialization of the technology is expected in 2027.
For now it’s not known which TVs will receive Nebula AI. The Koreans intend to pitch the solution to the largest manufacturers, including Samsung and LG.
