LG Display announced that 2025 will be the "inaugural year" for AI-based innovations. The company is integrating artificial intelligence into the design and production processes of OLED screens, reducing task completion times from months to just a few days. As emphasized by Lee Hee-dong, head of the newly established Design AI team, the implementation of proprietary tools has already improved profitability by over 200 billion won, and avoiding costs from external systems has generated an additional 10 billion won in savings.
Revolution in Designing Irregular Screens
One of the most innovative projects is "edge design AI" – an algorithm that automates the creation of compensatory patterns for screens with irregular shapes, such as curved panels or models with ultra-thin bezels. Previously, preparing such a design took about a month and required numerous attempts and revisions. Now, AI has shortened this process to just eight hours, while simultaneously minimizing the risk of errors and material waste.
AI in OLED Production – Faster, Cheaper, Better
LG Display has also created an "AI production system" that analyzes the causes of production problems and points out the best solutions. As a result, the time for quality improvement has reduced from 23 days to two, leading to an additional 20 billion won in savings. This system relieves quality control teams, allowing them to focus on strategic improvements instead of tedious data collection and analysis.
HI-D – AI assistant for employees
The company is also developing its internal AI assistant "HI-D", which supports employees in their daily work. It offers, among other things, information retrieval, real-time translations, automatic note-taking, email summaries, and document draft generation. This is another step towards full integration of AI at every stage – from product conception to mass production.
