Leaked screenshots reveal the cancelled God of War from Bluepoint! Kratos was set to return to Greece – and he just might in a remake or new saga.

Not much time has passed since the cancellation of several major Sony projects, and a new lead has emerged online that has ignited the imagination of fans. This time it concerns the canceled God of War from Bluepoint Games – the studio known for the remake of Demon’s Souls. Screenshots from this abandoned game have just leaked, and in the meantime, Christopher Judge, the voice of Kratos, revealed what hopes he has for the future of the series.

God of War That Will Not Be

At the beginning of 2025, Sony was supposed to carry out significant internal restructuring within its studios. After the unsuccessful Concord, the company decided to cancel several games-as-a-service — including multiplayer God of War, which was being developed by Bluepoint Games.

For a long time, it was unclear what this project was actually supposed to be. According to sources from the site MP1st, which published leaked screenshots, the game was supposed to combine themes known from the classic installments with modern elements of online gameplay. The revealed graphics indicate that the action took place in ancient Greece, surrounded by monumental temples of the Olympic gods and a cursed armory where we were to encounter Hades himself.

This raises the question: was this supposed to be a full-fledged part of the series, or just a spin-off? That is unknown. However, the screenshots suggest that the project at least partially referenced the Norse saga, so the creators might have been experimenting with combining both mythologies.

Why the project failed

Sony, after the failure of Concord, decided to limit investments in game-services, which have faced increasing backlash from players in recent years. Even established single-player brands like The Last of Us couldn't withstand the pressure of expectations and were abandoned. In the case of God of War, the decision to cancel seems logical — although it's a significant loss for fans, as Bluepoint Games has a reputation for being able to breathe new life into classics.

Egypt instead of Greece?

Not everything is lost, however. According to the latest rumors, Bluepoint is currently working on a third-person action game focused on melee combat, which many fans interpret as a remake of the first God of War. This direction would allow for the reuse of some previously created assets and return to the roots of the series — this time in the form of a traditional, cinematic experience.

Interestingly, Christopher Judge, the voice of Kratos, mentioned during London Comic Con that he dreams of Kratos ending up in Egypt in the next installment. This refers to previous leaks indicating that God of War Ragnarök was originally supposed to introduce Egyptian mythology.

Hope Still Lives

Three different Sony teams are reportedly working on new projects set in the God of War universe. Will one of them be a remake of the first installment by Bluepoint? Or perhaps a new saga with Kratos under the sun of Egypt? One thing is certain — fans will not give up. Even if this particular project has gone to dust, leaked screenshots have shown that the potential for a return to ancient Greece still exists. And as long as Kratos himself has something to say, his story is not finished.
