Is PlayStation following in Xbox's footsteps? Sony may be preparing a big return to cross-buy!

Calendar 11/5/2025

Sony may bring back the cross-buy feature between PlayStation and PC. One game, two worlds – just like Xbox Play Anywhere. A new era of gaming without limits.

It looks like Sony is preparing something big again. Players have discovered a new icon in the PlayStation store files that may herald the return of the legendary cross-buy feature — but in a completely new form.

The Return of a Well-Known Feature

Older players certainly don't need an explanation of what cross-buy was. In the days of PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and PS4, it allowed you to buy a game once and enjoy it on multiple platforms. It was simple, convenient, and… surprisingly modern for those times. Now, many indications suggest that Sony plans to bring this feature back — only with much greater scope.

An Icon that Speaks Volumes

According to Reddit users, a new icon labeled "cross-buy" with the PlayStation and PC symbols has appeared in the PlayStation system. This can only mean one thing — Sony is preparing an option for shared purchases of games that work on both consoles and personal computers. Sounds familiar? That's exactly how Xbox Play Anywhere works from Microsoft.

New Step Toward PC

In recent years, Sony has increasingly embraced PC - it's enough to mention the releases of "God of War," "Spider-Man," and "Horizon: Zero Dawn" on Steam and the Epic Games Store. If the cross-buy feature is indeed implemented, players could purchase a title once and play on both platforms at no additional cost. This would be a true game changer in the PlayStation ecosystem.

Maybe this is the announcement of a portable PlayStation?

Some fans are convinced that this is just the beginning. Cross-buy between PC and console would perfectly fit the rumors about a new portable Sony console, which is supposed to be a complement to the PS6. With such a solution, players could smoothly switch between devices, continuing their gameplay right where they left off — without the need to purchase the same game twice.

Sony is quiet for now, but if the rumors are confirmed, we could witness the return of one of the most beloved features in PlayStation history — this time in a version fit for 2025.
