Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, a huge leak ignites fans, but is it true?

Fans of Final Fantasy cannot complain about a lack of excitement. Although Square Enix has not officially announced the third part of the remake yet, a detailed leak has surfaced online that quickly ignited the community. According to it, the finale of the trilogy often referred to as Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 may be shown as soon as during Summer Game Fest 2026. The problem is that some of the information sounds too good to be true.

What the leak says, large scale, and new mechanics

The leak suggests that the game would be titled Final Fantasy VII Return and is set to debut in early 2027. However, the most excitement surrounds the details regarding the content. It is said to feature a world significantly larger, even twice the size of that in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, along with a huge emphasis on the storyline, with the number of cutscenes reportedly several times greater than before. Additionally, there will be new playable characters and an additional combat system referred to as "Active Turn Action," which is said to combine elements of classic ATB with modern action.

On paper, this sounds like a dream come true for fans: larger scale, more story, and greater freedom of gameplay. Furthermore, there are talks of a return to Midgar and an expansion of the world with new areas, which could further enhance the epic nature of the trilogy's finale. If even some of this information proves to be true, it could be one of the biggest releases of this generation.

Why Some Information Raises Doubts

The problem is that some elements of the leak seem unrealistic. Tripling the number of cutscenes or such a significant increase in the scale of the world is a huge production challenge, even for a large studio like Square Enix. However, the most controversy surrounds the combat system; a return to a more turn-based style contradicts the direction the series has taken in recent installments. The creators had previously made it clear that they wanted to move towards dynamic action, not revert to old solutions. Additionally, insiders are tempering expectations, suggesting that some information may be false or exaggerated. This means the leak should be treated with great caution. On the other hand, its popularity alone shows how high the community's expectations are for the conclusion of Cloud's story.

The leak regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 has sparked the imagination of fans, but there are many indications that some of the information may be exaggerated. We may have to wait for official confirmation, possibly until the Summer Game Fest.
