Apple Music is beginning to label music created by AI. The new system aims to increase transparency.

Calendar 3/5/2026

The streaming platform Apple Music is introducing a new solution aimed at increasing transparency in the world of music created with the use of artificial intelligence. The company announced the Transparency Tags system, which will allow marking content created using AI tools. Information about this change appeared in a newsletter directed to industry partners, such as labels and music distributors.

New Labels for AI-Generated Content

Transparency Tags are special metadata that will be added during the submission of works to the platform. Metadata are information describing a given material and can include, among other things, the title of the work, the name of the album, graphics, or genre. The new Apple Music system focuses on four elements that can be created using artificial intelligence: music recording, song lyrics, cover art, music video. This will allow users and industry partners to more easily recognize whether a given material was created with the involvement of AI.

The new labels will be added during the submission of content to the platform. However, Apple does not intend to independently verify all materials. The company will rely on distributors and record labels, which will decide for themselves whether to label the work as containing elements created by AI. The system currently operates on an optional basis, which means that partners can choose to use it, but it is not mandatory.

The Music Industry is increasingly focused on AI

The growing popularity of generative artificial intelligence is leading streaming platforms to start looking for ways to organize the market. Last year, a similar initiative was announced by the Spotify platform, which is working on additional safeguards regarding AI-generated content.

The introduction of Transparency Tags demonstrates that streaming platforms are starting to take the issue of music created by artificial intelligence seriously. Apple Music aims to increase transparency in this way and provide listeners with greater awareness of how the tracks available on the platform are produced.
