The dispute between Apple and Epic Games has been ongoing for years, and yet another important court decision has just emerged. Apple tried once again to challenge the previous ruling regarding fees in the App Store, but the request was denied. This means that, at least for now, the rules remain unchanged. External payments can still be used, but the issue of commissions is still not fully resolved. The whole situation illustrates how complicated and protracted this battle is.
Apple without another chance to change the verdict
Apple wanted to seek a reconsideration of the case, but the court unanimously rejected this request. This means that previous decisions remain in effect and the company must comply with them. For Apple, this is another blow in a long legal battle that has been ongoing for several years.
The dispute began in 2020 when Epic Games decided to bypass Apple’s payment system in the game Fortnite. Apple responded by removing the game from the App Store, which sparked one of the loudest conflicts in the tech industry. Since then, both companies have been fighting over the rules regarding commissions and control over payments.

The most important thing is that nothing is changing right now. Apple still has to allow developers to direct users to external payment methods. At the same time, the company can still take a commission from such transactions, although its amount cannot be as high as before. This element remains one of the most contentious.
Although the court's decision closes one of Apple’s appeal avenues, the entire conflict is still not resolved. Discussions are still ongoing regarding how much exactly Apple can charge developers. This means that in the coming months, we may see further moves from both sides and additional changes in the rules governing the App Store.
At this moment, the court has decided to maintain the current state of affairs. Apple cannot block external payments, but it still has some control over how they are settled. For users, not much changes, but for the industry, it is another important step toward greater freedom for developers.
