Google is preparing a successor to its popular media player. According to 9to5Google, the new Google TV Streamer will get a more powerful processor, more memory, and features that could make using the TV significantly easier. The biggest additions are expected to be built-in microphones and a presence sensor.
The current Google TV Streamer debuted in 2024, replacing Chromecast devices. Now the manufacturer is working on an improved version that should retain a similar look, although the enclosure will be slightly narrower. The most important change will be microphones built directly into the streaming device. Thanks to them, users will be able to issue voice commands with "Hey Google" without having to reach for the remote.
More powerful processor and more storage
The new model is expected to get a higher-performance SoC than the MediaTek MT8696 used in its predecessor and more than the current 32 GB of storage for apps. Also noteworthy is a presence sensor that could automatically activate the screensaver or display weather information when it detects someone in the room. Changes will also include the remote, which will feature two additional app shortcut buttons. The lost-remote finding function will be retained.
For now it's unclear when the new Google TV Streamer will go on sale or how much it will cost. All information comes from unofficial reports, and Google has not announced the device yet.
