Projectors are increasingly stepping up to compete with TVs, including in gaming features. Chinese company JMGO unveiled the N5S Turbo, which is said to deliver 4K at 120 Hz, support VRR, and offer high brightness. The biggest surprise, however, is the price: around 8,000 yuan, just over €1,000.
The JMGO N5S Turbo uses the new QuaLas 42 laser light source. The manufacturer claims a brightness of 3600 lumens CVIA and a native contrast ratio of 5000:1. It's worth noting, however, that the Chinese CVIA standard differs from the commonly used ANSI and ISO standards, so these values are not directly comparable.
120 Hz and VRR. A projector for gamers?
The biggest attraction of the new model is support for 4K at 120 Hz and VRR, i.e., variable refresh rate. The technology synchronizes the display refresh with the number of frames generated by a console or PC, reducing screen tearing. It also features Lens Shift, which allows optical image shifting vertically and horizontally, and an optical zoom with a throw ratio of 0.98–1.4:1. There is also integration with the Xiaomi Mijia smart home ecosystem. Sales of the JMGO N5S Turbo in China are set to begin on October 12, 2026. The projector targets a price around 8,000 yuan (about €1,070). For now the manufacturer has not confirmed a European launch.
If the claimed specs are confirmed in independent tests, the new JMGO could prove an interesting alternative to a large gaming TV.
