Rollable OLED screens a hit at CES: TCL CSOT and Lenovo showcase the future that fits in a tube

Calendar 1/16/2026

This is no longer science fiction - at the CES trade show, we checked out the technology that could completely change the appearance of our cars and laptops. Foldable OLED displays from TCL CSOT and an innovative design from Lenovo prove that a screen does not have to be a rigid slab of glass!

TCL OLED Screen That Appears and Disappears

The biggest impression was made on us by the prototype from TCL CSOT. It is a retractable OLED display that has been hidden in the car dashboard. The screen smoothly slides out like a sheet of paper only when needed. This solution allows for a minimalist car interior without sacrificing a vast work area.

Lenovo: A Laptop That "Grows" Before Your Eyes

We have seen similar technology in Lenovo's release. The manufacturer showcased a laptop whose screen mechanically extends upwards, increasing the working area in a matter of seconds. This is an ideal solution for those working with long spreadsheets or code, who, once their work is done, want to have a compact device.

Although the concept of rollable screens is not new (we remember the LG Rollable R9 television from 2019), what we saw this year is on a completely different level. The key is miniaturisation – the new panels roll up into a very tight tube, requiring neither large enclosures nor powerful actuators. Imagine projection screens replaced by an OLED as thin as paper with perfect contrast. Is this what our smartphones and laptops will look like in a few years? Everything indicates that we are heading in that direction.
