Apple has released tvOS 27.2, which introduces several new features to the Apple TV 4K. Users can now enjoy random screensavers, an easier way to locate the remote and additional accessibility options. The new software also prepares support for wireless surround sound using four HomePods.
New screensavers and locating the remote
One of the most important changes is the ability to switch automatically between different categories of screensaver. Apple TV can now display, at random, landscapes, photos and Snoopy animations. Users can also choose specific photos from their iPhone without sharing their entire library.
The update also adds support for American Sign Language and British Sign Language (ASL and BSL) for selected content in the Apple TV app, along with new accessibility options in FaceTime. Owners of the second-generation Siri Remote and later can locate the remote using the Find My app on their iPhone.
Four HomePods as a home cinema
The most interesting addition for home cinema enthusiasts is support for a wireless surround setup made up of four HomePods. The speakers can operate in a configuration of two front and two rear units, delivering surround sound, including Dolby Atmos.
However, the feature will be available only on the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, which goes on sale on 13 November. Appropriately paired second-generation HomePods or HomePod mini 2 units are also required.
tvOS 27.2 is already available to download on Apple TV 4K second generation and later. Older devices receive a separate tvOS 26.6.1 update.
