It allows users to create their own stream of videos based on a simple command entered by them. This makes it easier to find content related to specific interests, hobbies, or current moods. It's one of the biggest changes in the way videos are discovered on YouTube for quite some time.
Your own recommendation channel instead of regular searching
A new option appears at the top of the homepage next to the standard thematic categories. Once activated, the user can enter any command describing the materials they are interested in. YouTube then automatically creates a separate recommendation channel based on the provided description. Importantly, such a channel can be saved and revisited later without the need to enter the same phrase again. Users can also edit their commands, and the system will immediately generate a new set of materials. As a result, the feature operates more like a personal content discovery section than a traditional search engine.
YouTube wants to give users greater control
The new feature aims to help those who feel tired of the constantly repeating recommendations. Instead of relying solely on the algorithm, viewers can indicate for themselves the direction they want to explore on the platform. However, this does not mean a complete shutdown of the existing recommendation system. YouTube acknowledges that viewing history still plays an important role in content selection. The feature serves more as an additional layer of personalisation than a full reset of the homepage. For now, it is available exclusively for logged-in users in the USA who use the English language and have an active search and viewing history.
The new "Your custom feed" could turn out to be one of the more interesting additions to YouTube in recent years. This feature gives users greater control over which content appears on the homepage and allows them to discover new materials tailored to their current interests more quickly.
