Microsoft and Ubisoft have announced an expansion of their collaboration, introducing two significant changes for players. The first concerns the Xbox app on PC, which now includes premium editions and additional content for many of the French publisher's games. The second may prove even more attractive for Xbox console owners. Selected Ubisoft digital games can also be activated on PCs at no extra cost. The solution covers around a dozen popular titles. Some users will receive the new feature in the coming days.
Owners of selected games on Xbox will receive the PC version at no extra cost
The main new feature is the ability to obtain the PC version of selected Ubisoft games free of charge. The offer applies to people who own the digital edition of a game on Xbox. Simply update the Ubisoft Connect app and, once the rollout is complete, the titles will appear in the user's library. The process of making the games available to current owners will proceed gradually until 4 August. From now on, people buying the digital versions of the promoted games will automatically receive access to both the Xbox and PC versions. The programme includes, among others, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Rainbow Six Siege, Rainbow Six Extraction, Skull and Bones, The Crew 2, The Crew Motorfest, Riders Republic and Watch Dogs Legion. Microsoft stresses that the offer works only one way. That means PC owners will not receive free access to the console edition. This solution is intended to make it easier for players to use both platforms without having to buy the same titles again. That will make switching between console and PC much more convenient. For many users, this will be one of the most interesting changes in the Xbox ecosystem in recent months.
New premium editions and DLCs have arrived in the Xbox app on PC
The second addition is an expansion of Ubisoft’s offerings available in the Xbox app on PC. The library has been extended to include premium editions and selected DLCs for many of the publisher’s popular games. These include Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Star Wars Outlaws, Rainbow Six Siege, Skull and Bones and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The expansion also covers games from the Far Cry, Watch Dogs, The Crew and Assassin’s Creed series. In most cases owned add-ons and season passes will be carried over to the PC versions at no extra charge. The exceptions are one-off items and in-game currencies. Microsoft explains that content tied to an account will be visible in the Ubisoft Connect app along with information about owned add-ons. In titles that support cross-progression, players will also keep their progress across platforms. The expanded cooperation shows that Microsoft and Ubisoft are increasingly pushing for integration between PCs and Xbox consoles. For users, this means fewer restrictions and greater freedom to use purchased games. It is also another step towards unifying digital libraries across platforms.
Microsoft and Ubisoft have prepared an appealing new offer for players on Xbox and PC. Selected games can be played on both platforms after a one-off purchase of the digital console version, and the Xbox app on PC has also gained new premium editions and expansions for many popular titles.
