Xbox has been struggling with issues related to the Game Pass service for some time. Price increases and changes to the available packages have met with criticism from some players and have affected the subscription's popularity. The new head of Microsoft’s gaming division, Asha Sharma, openly admitted that the company felt the impact of these decisions. However, an internal memo that leaked to the media shows that the situation is beginning to improve. According to Xbox, the recent price reduction for Game Pass has brought the first positive results. The company hopes that this will be the beginning of rebuilding players' trust.
Cheaper Game Pass Attracts New Users
According to information relayed to Xbox employees, last year's price increase led to a slowdown in the service's growth and a faster churn of subscribers. The moment when Xbox Game Pass Ultimate cost as much as $30 per month was particularly negatively received. Currently, the price has been reduced to $23, although the package no longer offers premiere editions of Call of Duty on launch day. Nevertheless, Microsoft claims that the number of new users is increasing and that current subscribers are cancelling the service less frequently. The company describes these results as the first step towards improving the situation.
Xbox announces further changes
Asha Sharma emphasises, however, that a single price reduction will not resolve all the brand's issues. According to her, Xbox must make tough decisions regarding future investments, the projects being developed, and the overall direction of the company. So far, no specific plans have been presented, but more details may emerge during the upcoming events related to Summer Game Fest. It is there that Microsoft will have the opportunity to showcase new games and convince players that Xbox is back on the right track. However, many fans are expecting concrete actions, not just more declarations.
Microsoft admits that earlier decisions regarding Game Pass have harmed the service's development. The initial effects of the price reduction look promising, but Xbox still faces many challenges. The coming months will show whether the company will actually regain the trust of gamers.
