Microsoft continues to expand cloud gaming and is making the Xbox app available on more devices. This time support has come to Hisense TVs running Vidaa OS, allowing users to play games from Xbox Game Pass without having to buy a console. The update is being rolled out gradually and covers millions of TVs from 2024 to 2026.
Hisense TVs with Vidaa OS get the Xbox app
Microsoft has announced the start of the rollout of the Xbox app to TVs running Vidaa OS, including compatible models from Hisense. The rollout covers devices manufactured between 2024–2026 that run Vidaa OS 9.6 or later. After installing the relevant update, the app will appear automatically on the TV's home screen. This allows users to launch games without having to connect an Xbox console to the TV. All that is required is an active Xbox Game Pass subscription and a compatible Bluetooth controller. Microsoft emphasises that both Xbox and PlayStation controllers are supported, which increases the convenience of the service. The company is steadily developing its cloud gaming strategy by making the app available on an increasing number of devices. Previously the Xbox app was released on, among others, Samsung, LG and Amazon Fire TV devices. Now models running Vidaa are joining that group.
Xbox Game Pass without a console, but with certain limitations
The biggest advantage of the app is that it lets you run games without owning an Xbox Series X or Series S. All titles are streamed directly from Microsoft's servers, so a stable internet connection is all you need. Users can play both titles available via Xbox Game Pass and selected games they previously bought digitally that support cloud play. Promoted titles include Forza Horizon 6 and Halo: Campaign Evolved. However, it's worth noting that the TV app still offers a maximum of 1080p SDR resolution. Features such as 4K, HDR or Dolby Atmos remain available only on the Xbox Series X console. Microsoft says it will continue to expand the app's availability to additional platforms. For now owners of Hisense with Google TV TVs cannot use the service, but earlier announcements say support for this platform is expected to arrive later this year. This is another step towards making Xbox games available on as many devices as possible.
