Portable projectors are becoming increasingly advanced year after year. They now offer not only good picture quality but also features that, until recently, were reserved for smart TVs. TCL has gone a step further by equipping its Playcube projector with support for the Gemini artificial intelligence from Google. This gives the device new capabilities for entertainment, learning and everyday multimedia use. The update is intended to make operating the projector more intuitive and convenient. It is another example of the growing role of AI in consumer electronics.
Gemini introduces new features and makes the projector easier to use
The biggest addition is integration with the Gemini model, which expands Playcube's capabilities with four new operating modes. The "Ask" feature lets you talk to the projector and receive film and series recommendations tailored to the user's preferences. The artificial intelligence can also remind you of the key events from previous seasons of series, making it easier to return to watching after a long break. The "Brief" mode prepares a personalised summary of the most important information, covering news, sports highlights and YouTube Shorts content. The user can quickly catch up with the main content without having to open multiple apps. Another feature is "Study", which uses Gemini to create clear diagrams, infographics and visualisations displayed on a large surface. The final mode, "Creation", uses generative artificial intelligence and the Veo model to generate images and video content based on the user's description. This allows the projector to create an atmospheric background, such as a burning fireplace or a starry sky. The update with the new features is already being rolled out gradually to Playcube owners.
Compact projector offers strong specifications and even greater capabilities
The Playcube stands out primarily for its compact size and portability. The projector weighs less than 1.3 kilograms and is equipped with a battery that allows for up to three hours of operation without being connected to mains power. The device uses a 0.33‑inch DMD chip and displays images at a native Full HD 1080p resolution. A brightness of 750 lumens and TCL's proprietary Immersive Color technology are intended to provide good image quality for its class. A distinctive design feature is a 360-degree rotating housing, which allows the image to be directed onto a wall, ceiling or sloped surface without using additional mounts. The manufacturer has also announced that Gemini features will not remain exclusive to the Playcube. Similar solutions are expected to appear in other TCL devices in the future. However, the company has not yet revealed which models will receive the update or exactly when that will happen. The integration of artificial intelligence shows that portable projectors are becoming increasingly versatile devices for entertainment and everyday use.
