The release of Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains is fast approaching. Ubisoft has released further details about the new instalment of the cult board game, which this time will transport players to the Star Wars universe. The developers have revealed the full list of special abilities available to heroes and villains and explained how best to combine individual characters into teams. Everything suggests the gameplay will be much more dynamic than in classic Monopoly. Victory will be decided not only by dice rolls but also by a well-chosen strategy.

Each character will have their own special ability

In Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains players will be able to choose from 28 iconic characters from the Star Wars universe, split into 14 heroes and 14 villains. Each character has a unique ability that affects how the game unfolds. The developers have ensured balance between the two sides of the conflict. Every hero has a counterpart among the villains with an identical effect. Special abilities allow, among other things, stealing credits from rivals, upgrading owned properties, sending opponents to jail, triggering additional battles or moving around the board faster. There will also be abilities that make acquiring new territory easier and increase the odds in duels. As a result, each game can play out very differently depending on the team chosen. The developers stress that picking the right characters will become one of the most important strategic elements. Dice rolls alone will no longer be enough to win. Players will need to plan the cooperation of the whole team and exploit synergy between individual characters.

Developers suggest the best team combinations

Ubisoft also revealed a few example character line-ups tailored to different play styles. Players focused on quickly taking over properties should build their team around Padmé Amidala or Dedra Meero, whose abilities reduce the cost of buying properties. Combat-focused players can opt for Mace Windu or Asajj Ventress, who increase their chances in duels, and then round out the roster with characters that trigger extra confrontations. For players who prefer fast movement around the board there are combinations using Rose Tico, Captain Phasma, Finn or Boba Fett. There are also line-ups focused on earning credits or making life difficult for opponents by frequently sending them to jail. According to the developers, the number of possible combinations is large and players will be able to experiment with their own strategies. Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains will offer online gameplay and a local multiplayer mode for 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 teams. The game will be released on 30 June for Xbox Series X|S consoles.
