Sony has unveiled two new PlayStation headsets: the Pulse and the Pulse Edge. The company is building on features from the Pulse Elite, but this time it is differentiating the line-up more clearly. The Edge gets the most new features, with active noise cancellation, a detachable microphone and separate volume controls for game audio and chat.

Console audio and phone connection at the same time

Both models have larger planar drivers, which, according to Sony, are designed to provide fuller bass while retaining detail and precise sound positioning. The ability to use PlayStation Link and Bluetooth simultaneously will also be useful. The headphones can therefore stay connected to both the console and a phone. Link supports PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac, and a USB-C adapter is included. Sony has also changed the design; the swivelling earcups allow the headphones to fold flat.

Pulse Edge with ANC and two ways to talk

The biggest distinguishing feature of the Pulse Edge is active noise cancellation, useful when gaming in a room shared with other household members. This model also includes a detachable boom microphone. Even after unplugging it you can still talk thanks to a hidden microphone. There are also buttons to adjust the balance between game and chat audio on the PS5, an audio jack and a carrying case. Differences also include the drivers: on the Edge each driver has eight magnets, while the base Pulse has four. Sony links this change to further improvement in bass response.

You'll have to wait separately for the new models. The Pulse will be released in selected markets during the 2026 holiday season, while the Pulse Edge will arrive in early 2027. Both will be available in white and Midnight Black. Sony has not yet disclosed prices or exact pre-order dates. For now, it is the Edge that is drawing more attention, mainly because of its ANC.
