Sonos has unveiled two new audio devices: the Beam Ultra soundbar and the Ace Ultra headphones. The Beam Ultra promises a more expansive Dolby Atmos sound thanks to nine drivers, including two upward-firing units. The manufacturer has also improved dialogue reproduction and equipped the device with an AI Speech Enhancement feature. The Ace Ultra headphones feature improved active noise cancellation (ANC), 40 mm drivers and up to 35 hours of battery life with noise cancellation enabled. Both devices will ship on 29 September, priced at €699 and €449 respectively.
Sonos Beam Ultra offers a more powerful Dolby Atmos
Sonos has introduced a new soundbar, the Beam Ultra, which is designed to deliver a more advanced surround sound experience than the previous second-generation Beam. The compact design houses nine drivers, while the earlier model used a 5.1.2 configuration. The Beam Ultra features, among other things, two upward-firing drivers. As a result, the device supports Dolby Atmos in a 7.1.2 configuration. The manufacturer also claims improved bass reproduction. The centre channel has been designed for clearer dialogue. Sonos has also employed an AI Speech Enhancement feature to improve speech intelligibility. This technology was previously demonstrated during a firmware update for other devices from the brand. The Beam Ultra remains a smaller and cheaper option than the flagship Arc Ultra. The Arc Ultra still remains the only Sonos soundbar equipped with Sound Motion technology, which is intended to provide deeper bass. However, the Beam Ultra can be expanded with other elements of the Sonos system, including rear speakers and a subwoofer. This is one of the main strengths of the manufacturer's ecosystem, as it allows you to gradually expand a home cinema set-up. It should be noted, however, that the new soundbar does not support DTS and is limited to basic DTS.
Sonos Ace Ultra are set to make private film viewing easier
The other new product is the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones, which build on the idea of using headphones as part of a home cinema setup. Like the standard Ace, the new model can receive spatial audio from films and TV shows played through a compatible Sonos soundbar. The Ace Ultra use spatial audio technology to work with a soundbar that supports Dolby Atmos. The multichannel soundtrack is converted into spatial sound played through the headphones' two stereo drivers. This lets you watch films immersed in spatial sound without using speakers that others can hear. Sonos has also fitted the Ace Ultra with the Headphone Engine 2. Sound is delivered by 40 mm drivers. The manufacturer has also improved the active noise cancellation (ANC). Battery life on a single charge is up to 35 hours with ANC enabled. Users can also easily switch the audio playing through the Sonos system to the headphones with a single button. The Sonos Beam Ultra costs $699, £699 or €699, while the Ace Ultra is priced at $449, £399 or €449. Both devices will ship on 29 September.
