Project Hail Mary has just hit premium home distribution. The acclaimed science fiction film starring Ryan Gosling is now available to watch in 4K HDR with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support.
Project Hail Mary has proven to be a great cinematic success
The film has turned out to be one of the biggest surprises of 2026. The production has already earned nearly as much in cinemas as Dune: Part Two and received very good reviews from both audiences and critics. The story follows Ryland Grace, who wakes up alone on a spaceship during a mission to save humanity. The film is based on the novel by Andy Weir, the author of "The Martian." The directors are Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Project Hail Mary is now available as PVOD, or premium video-on-demand. The home version offers 4K imagery with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos sound. Some scenes have also been prepared in the expanded IMAX 1.78:1 format, and according to reports, the full version of these shots is available among others in the Apple TV app. The film is highly praised for its visual effects, and the HDR home release allows for a wider brightness range and more intense colours than most cinema projectors.
For now, only in the more expensive PVOD version
The distribution is handled by the Amazon-owned MGM studio. Currently, the film is available exclusively in the more expensive PVOD format, but it is expected to be released for standard sales and digital rentals later on. It is still unknown when the production will appear on the Prime Video subscription. A UHD Blu-ray release has also been announced, planned for August.
Project Hail Mary has already been released for home distribution in 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos quality. Many viewers consider the film to be one of the strongest contenders for the title of best science fiction of 2026.
