Samsung used Gamescom 2026 to unveil its first OLED monitors designed for 2027. The company showed three new Odyssey models that emphasise high refresh rates and modern QD-OLED panels. Most impressive is the Odyssey G9 with a 49-inch screen, a resolution of 5120 × 1440 pixels and a 360 Hz refresh rate. Samsung also showcased a 32-inch Odyssey G8 and a 42-inch Odyssey G7, which is set to be the first curved 16:9 OLED monitor at that diagonal. The manufacturer has not yet announced prices or exact launch dates for the new models.
Samsung Odyssey G9 gets an even faster and more efficient OLED panel
The standout among the monitors announced is the Odyssey G9 G95SJ. It is a 49-inch ultrawide screen using a fifth-generation Penta Tandem QD-OLED panel. The monitor offers DQHD resolution of 5120 × 1440 pixels. The maximum refresh rate is 360 Hz, which is very high for a screen with such a high resolution. Samsung has also introduced a special Dual Mode that allows the monitor to be switched to a 2560 × 720 resolution and reach as much as 720 Hz. The panel is said to reach a peak brightness of up to 1300 nits. The manufacturer has also employed an RGB Stripe pixel layout, which should improve text legibility and image clarity. Samsung claims the new-generation panel is up to 1.3 times more energy-efficient than the previous one. According to the company, its lifespan may also be up to twice as long. The G95SJ will replace the current Odyssey G9 G95SD, so buyers will need to pay attention to the model designation when purchasing. The letter "J" in the name indicates that this is the generation prepared for 2027. Samsung has not yet announced the price or the exact release date for the monitor.
Odyssey G7 and G8 show that Samsung is putting a strong emphasis on high refresh rates
The second major novelty is the Odyssey G7 G75SJ, which is meant to stand out above all for its unusual size and design. Samsung describes it as the world's first 42-inch curved OLED monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen offers 4K resolution and a 165 Hz refresh rate. The response time is just 0.03 ms, which should especially appeal to people who play fast-paced games. The manufacturer has also applied a strong 1000R curvature to increase the sense of immersion. Samsung did not label this panel as QD-OLED, so at this point it has not been confirmed exactly how the panel was constructed. The other model is the 32-inch Odyssey G8 G80SJ with a fifth-generation Penta Tandem QD-OLED panel. It offers 4K resolution and refresh rates up to 360 Hz. Thanks to Triple Mode you can also switch to 1440p at 520 Hz or Full HD at 680 Hz. The monitor will also feature HDR support, an HDMI 2.1 port, DisplayPort 2.1 and USB-C capable of delivering up to 98 W of power. Samsung has not yet announced prices or exact release dates for these new OLED models.
Samsung also prepared an LCD monitor with a 1100 Hz refresh rate
At Gamescom 2026 there was another interesting new product, although this time it is not an OLED monitor. Samsung confirmed that the 27-inch Odyssey G7 with an IPS LCD panel will ultimately receive a refresh rate as high as 1100 Hz. Earlier the manufacturer had announced 1040 Hz for this model. However, such an extremely high frequency will be available only at HD resolution. The monitor is due to hit the market in the second half of 2026. Samsung believes this will be the fastest-refreshing screen in its lineup. At the same time, the new OLED monitors are not trying to compete with it merely on hertz. Thanks to the characteristics of OLED technology they are expected to offer very fast response times and high motion clarity. The company did not, however, announce a 25-inch QD-OLED monitor at Gamescom, even though Samsung Display had previously shown such a panel. It is therefore possible that this model will have to wait until CES 2027. Samsung's new OLED monitors show that the manufacturer wants to combine high resolutions with refresh rates that until recently were reserved for much simpler displays. Particularly noteworthy is the ability to switch between different picture modes, allowing the user to choose either 4K detail or extreme smoothness.
