PlayStation 5 Pro is becoming difficult to find in shops across many markets. Shortages affect, among others, the United States and several European countries, and the situation emerged shortly after the Grand Theft Auto VI showcase. A 26-minute video presenting the game made a strong impression on players, showing the capabilities of the current generation of consoles. GTA VI is due to debut on 19 November exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. As the launch approaches, demand for available devices may also rise, especially since console prices have been increasing for some time.
PS5 Pro sold out in many countries
The PlayStation 5 Pro is currently the most powerful console in Sony’s range, so some players may see it as the best hardware for the upcoming GTA VI. Several outlets reported that the PS5 Pro has sold out in the United States. According to checks by FlatpanelsHD, a similar problem is occurring in many European countries. Shortages appeared after the presentation of Grand Theft Auto VI, which was released as a 26-minute piece of footage. The showcase drew a lot of attention because of its graphics and the scale of the production. The material was described as an impressive technical demonstration of the current generation of consoles' capabilities. GTA VI is intended to show that current-generation hardware still has considerable potential, even though the game will run capped at 30 frames per second. At the same time, it is worth remembering that the presented footage was prepared on the standard PlayStation 5. That means GTA VI itself does not require the more powerful Pro model to run. Neither Sony nor Rockstar have so far announced specific performance enhancements prepared especially for the PS5 Pro. It is therefore not known how large the difference will be between the standard PS5 and the Pro version for the new game. For people wanting to buy a console specifically with GTA VI in mind, however, PS5 Pro availability may become increasingly important.
Standard PS5 still available, but prices are rising
The standard PlayStation 5 is currently much easier to find than the Pro version. However, that may change as the release of GTA VI, scheduled for 19 November, approaches. If demand for consoles starts to surge, availability of the standard PS5 could also come under pressure. Console prices have been steadily increasing since December 2025. Sony also announced an official price rise in April 2026. As a result, the run-up to Christmas could be tougher for those planning to buy a console. Further price increases and availability issues for some models cannot be ruled out. GTA VI will not appear on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The game will also not be available on PC at launch. Supported devices will include PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The Xbox Series X has similar power to the standard PS5, so it should handle Rockstar’s production without major problems. The Xbox Series S remains a bigger unknown, as it is noticeably weaker than the other consoles of the current generation.
PlayStation 5 Pro is currently sold out in many regions, which may be linked to growing interest in GTA VI. The standard PS5 is still relatively easy to buy, though its prices are also rising. Grand Theft Auto VI will debut on 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, with no versions for older devices or for PC at launch. Sony and Rockstar have not yet revealed whether the PS5 Pro version will offer significant improvements over the standard model.
