During a special Minecraft LIVE broadcast from TwitchCon Europe 2026, the studio revealed more attractions planned for this year. Players were able to see new gameplay elements, learn about further details of upcoming updates, and get a glimpse into the future of the universe. However, the biggest excitement was generated by information about Minecraft Dungeons II and the film sequel to the box office hit.
A new biome will appear later this year
Mojang has presented the first material from the third major update of Minecraft scheduled for 2026. One of the main novelties will be the Dappled Forest biome, a colourful forest featuring distinctive poplars and abandoned campsites scattered throughout the game world. The creators also revealed that they are working on additional elements related to the upcoming update. More details about the autumn expansion are expected to be disclosed in the coming months.
During the event, new information regarding Minecraft Dungeons II was also unveiled. For the first time, players were able to see the Twisted Warden, one of the new foes that will appear in the game. According to the developers, the creature is not among the fastest, but compensates for this with immense strength. Dungeons II is set to offer both entirely new locations and a return to familiar biomes. The game's release is planned for 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, and on Game Pass.
A Minecraft Movie Squared is Coming
The biggest surprise of the broadcast turned out to be the official reveal of the title of the film's sequel. The production will be called A Minecraft Movie Squared. The creators announced new adventures, more mobs, and an expansion of the film universe. It has also been confirmed that Kirsten Dunst will join the cast, portraying the character Alex. Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Matt Berry will also reappear in the film. Additionally, a special contest called the Minecraft Movie Build Challenge has been launched, where players can create a build inspired by the film. The best construction stands a chance of being featured directly in the film or in the credits.
