The Minecraft community has been astonishing for years with incredible constructions, from small houses to entire cities built block by block. Now, players' creativity can be rewarded in a unique way. Microsoft has announced the Minecraft Movie Build Challenge, a competition inspired by the upcoming sequel to the film hit. This time, the stakes are not just prestige, but also the chance to become a part of the brand's history.
The best construction could end up in the film
The competition task is relatively simple. Participants must create a building or house fitting one of four biomes: plains, taiga, badlands, or frozen ocean. The problem is that the construction must fit within a space of just 16 × 16 × 32 blocks. All participants receive the same set of blocks and identical starting conditions. The organisers emphasise that creativity and skillful use of available resources are what truly matter. The best entry may be placed directly in the film A Minecraft Movie Squared or in its end credits.
Awards for the finalists
The competition is divided into several stages. First, 15 semi-finalists will be selected, who will receive cinema tickets. Then, three finalists will be awarded a private film screening. The final winner will gain both tickets, a private screening, and the opportunity to see their construction on the big screen. Applications can be submitted from 30 May to 8 June 2026. To participate, one must prepare a short video presenting the structure and a screenshot showing its front.
Free cape for all players
Microsoft has also prepared a reward for those who do not plan to enter the competition. Between 30 May and 14 June, players can obtain a special Builder Cape for Minecraft. All you need to do is watch Minecraft creators' streams on Twitch or TikTok for a specified amount of time and claim a promotional code.
The Minecraft Movie Build Challenge is one of the most unusual initiatives related to the brand in recent years. The opportunity to appear in the film means that the competition can attract thousands of creative players from all over the world. For fans of building, this is an opportunity that may not come around again.
