The gaming monitor market has increasingly focused on extremely high refresh rates for several years now. Not long ago, the standard for gamers was 144Hz or 240Hz, and today manufacturers are already competing for the 1000Hz level. LG has officially joined this race and announced the first monitor offering a native 1000Hz at Full HD resolution. This is a significant step compared to earlier models, which achieved such results only by reducing image quality to 720p. The manufacturer claims that the new model is designed to provide even better smoothness and minimise motion blur during fast-paced online games. In practice, however, some experts still believe that modern OLED monitors can offer better clarity of motion despite lower refresh rates.
LG wants to set a new standard for e-sports monitors
LG 25G590B is the first monitor on the market to offer native 1000Hz at a resolution of 1080p. Previous designs from AOC, Philips, or Samsung achieved similar values only after switching to a special 720p mode. However, LG has determined that Full HD will be a much more sensible solution for gamers in 2026. The monitor uses an IPS LCD panel and is to be equipped with Motion Blur Reduction Pro technology. The manufacturer also announces additional AI systems to improve image quality during gaming. LG emphasizes that the new model has been designed primarily with professional e-sports and the most demanding online gamers in mind. The company also believes that achieving 1000Hz is an important milestone for the entire gaming monitor industry. Just a few years ago, many experts predicted that such a result would only be achieved around 2030. However, the development of the OLED market and increasing competition have significantly accelerated the entire technological race.
OLED can still be better despite lower refresh rates
Despite LG's impressive results, some experts point out that the numbers do not always translate directly to picture quality. Today's OLED monitors offering 720Hz can still provide better motion clarity than classic 1000Hz LCD panels. This is mainly due to the much faster pixel response times in OLED technology. LG is well aware of this, which is why the new monitor has been equipped with additional blur reduction systems. The problem, however, is that LCD increasingly looks like a technology trying to make up for its limitations with extreme refresh rates. OLED remains the more expensive solution, but for many gamers, it simply offers a better picture and higher motion quality. The race between LCD and OLED will clearly continue, especially in the premium gaming monitor segment.
