On 4 August the next edition of the Leagues Cup will begin, the prestigious tournament held under the auspices of CONCACAF. The competition will feature 18 clubs apiece from Major League Soccer and Liga MX, and all matches will be available to watch exclusively on Apple TV. This year's edition will also bring several new elements, including the first matches to be played in Mexico and the debuts of world football stars.
Leagues Cup 2026 will bring together the top clubs from MLS and Liga MX
Leagues Cup 2026 will begin on 4 August and run until a winner is decided from the 36 participants. The tournament will feature 18 teams from the American Major League Soccer and 18 from Mexico's Liga MX. Organisers have once again adopted a format that guarantees head-to-head matches between clubs from both leagues up to the quarter-finals. A new feature this year is that some first-phase matches will be played in Mexico. In total, fans will watch 62 matches broadcast live exclusively via Apple TV in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide. Clubs will compete not only for the main trophy but also for three spots that grant qualification to the next edition of the competition and the chance to play in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The tournament winner will gain direct entry to the round of 16 of that competition, opening the way to qualification for the FIFA Club World Cup. The defending champions are Seattle Sounders, who beat Inter Miami 3-0 in last year's final. The holders will begin this year's campaign on 5 August with a match against Toluca FC. Organisers are hoping for even greater interest in the tournament than in previous years.
Robert Lewandowski will make his Leagues Cup debut and Apple has prepared extra attractions
One of the biggest events of this year’s edition will be the debut of several global stars who will appear in the Leagues Cup for the first time. Among them are Robert Lewandowski representing Chicago Fire, Antoine Griezmann playing for Orlando City SC and Casemiro, who joined Inter Miami. All matches will be available to watch on Apple TV with commentary in English, Spanish and French where available. The platform has also prepared special pre-match and post-match programmes summarising each day of the tournament. Fans will also have access to additional on-demand content. Apple is also developing an entire ecosystem around the competition. In the Apple Sports app users will be able to follow live scores, statistics, tables and detailed coverage of every match. Apple Music will offer special playlists curated by MLS players, while Apple Maps will help fans discover stadiums and their history. Meanwhile, Apple News will include a special Leagues Cup section with the latest news, results and tables. This will allow Apple users to follow the whole tournament within a single ecosystem.
