Although the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro is still some way off, further information about Apple's upcoming flagship is appearing online. This time attention has been drawn to a leak allegedly showing the new smartphone’s logic board. The most interesting changes are said to concern the A20 Pro chip and the way it is constructed. According to unofficial reports, Apple wants to improve heat dissipation, increase AI capabilities and use faster memory. For now, however, these are unconfirmed reports.
Apple is preparing a new A20 Pro chip design
According to information posted by leaker Reptalicant, Apple is planning significant changes to the design of the A20 Pro processor, which is expected to power the iPhone 18 Pro. The company will use Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) technology, placing the DRAM alongside the main chip rather than directly on top of it. This should improve heat dissipation and allow the processor to maintain high performance for longer during demanding tasks. At the same time, the leak suggests the processor core itself will remain roughly the same size as the A19 Pro. Apple is instead set to adopt faster LPDDR5X memory with a 96-bit memory bus and a considerably more powerful Neural Engine to handle AI features. All these changes are primarily intended to increase energy efficiency and AI processing capabilities without significantly enlarging the chip itself. Better cooling could also reduce overheating during prolonged heavy use. This is the direction Apple has been developing over several generations of its processors. If the information proves true, the iPhone 18 Pro could deliver noticeably more stable performance than current models.
The leak sounds intriguing, but should still be approached with caution
Despite the interesting details, experts emphasise that leaks of this kind regarding the internal construction of Apple's logic boards are exceptionally rare. The vast majority of earlier reports were based on information from the supply chain or on device specification data, not on photographs of structural components. Therefore the authenticity of the new leak is difficult to verify at present. At the same time the concept itself seems logical, as Apple has been developing solutions for several years to improve the performance and efficiency of its custom processors. The growing importance of artificial intelligence–based features means better cooling and a more efficient Neural Engine are becoming increasingly important. For now, however, none of these claims have been confirmed by Apple or by other reliable sources. There is still plenty of time before the iPhone 18 Pro is unveiled, so the device's specifications may change. In the coming months more leaks are likely to appear that will make it easier to assess the credibility of the current reports. Until then all information should be treated solely as unofficial rumours.
A new leak suggests that Apple plans to redesign the A20 Pro chip in the iPhone 18 Pro, prioritising better cooling, faster memory and a more powerful AI engine. For now, however, the manufacturer has not confirmed these reports, so they should be treated with great caution.
