When editing a film, screen space usually runs out exactly when it's needed most. The preview fights for space with the timeline, the media library and additional panels. HKC offers a rather unusual solution: the Tianqi 43H180C, a 43.8-inch monitor with a 24:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 5760 × 2160. You can display a full 4K image on it, and beside it there's still an area measuring 1920 × 2160 pixels. That's room for tools without obscuring what you're actually working on.
The unconventional form factor comes with fairly extensive features. The manufacturer has implemented a 1000R curvature, a Mini LED backlight and a 180 Hz refresh rate. It also claims 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space. For connecting a computer it offers, among other ports, DisplayPort 2.1 and USB-C with up to 96 W power delivery. There is also a KVM switch that lets you operate multiple connected devices with a single keyboard and mouse. Such a setup may appeal to people who share their desk between a work laptop and a personal PC.
What remains most interesting, however, is the screen concept itself: as tall as a standard 4K monitor but with extra space at the side. In practice this could be a handy compromise between a single display and a dual-monitor setup. It is still too soon to judge value for money, as the price and the date for wider availability have not been announced. There is also no information on the number of local dimming zones, so the mere label "Mini LED" is not yet enough to assess HDR performance.
