Grand Theft Auto VI has been one of the most anticipated games in the world for many months. The huge interest in the next instalment of the series is confirmed by the strong performance of the trailers and early presale figures. Now analysts at Newzoo have published forecasts suggesting a record-breaking debut for Rockstar Games' title. According to their estimates, GTA VI could generate billions of dollars in revenue in its first week on the market. No game in history has achieved such a result so far. Everything indicates that the release of GTA VI could become one of the biggest events in the entertainment industry.

Forecasts indicate up to 51 million copies sold in its first week

Analyst firm Newzoo predicts that GTA VI could generate from US$3.3 to as much as US$5.2 billion in revenue during its first week of sales. The most optimistic model assumes revenues of about US$4.5 billion and sales close to 51 million copies. The forecasts were based on earlier pre-order figures and the launch performance of the biggest sequels in the industry. According to analysts, GTA VI already generated roughly US$260 million in revenue in the first week of pre-orders. This shows the scale of interest in Rockstar Games’ new release even before its debut. Newzoo’s more conservative model also predicts impressive results. In that scenario GTA VI would sell around 37 million copies and generate US$3.25 billion in revenue in the first week. Even that outcome would be one of the largest achievements in the history of the video game market. Analysts emphasise that all forecasts relate only to the initial stage of sales.

A PC launch could bring another wave of record-breaking figures

Newzoo's forecasts take into account that GTA VI is expected to debut exclusively on consoles. That means a later PC release could generate another large wave of sales. Analysts say earlier Sony launches have shown PC editions can significantly boost overall sales figures. Huge interest in GTA VI was already visible when the game's second trailer was released; the footage is reported to have exceeded 475 million views across all platforms within the first 24 hours. Those numbers show that interest in the new instalment goes far beyond a typical game release. If Newzoo's forecasts prove accurate, Rockstar Games will set new records both in sales and in revenue. We'll only know the final figures after the game's release, but experts are already expecting a historic debut. GTA VI could become one of the most lucrative launches in the history of the entire entertainment industry.

Analysts at Newzoo predict that GTA VI could generate around $4.5 billion in revenue and sell as many as 51 million copies in its first week on the market. Even more conservative forecasts point to a record-breaking debut that could set new standards for the entire video game industry.
