Google Cast is coming to Samsung televisions! Which models will receive support for Chromecast?

Until recently, Samsung TV users had to accept certain limitations when it came to casting content from their phones. The Korean giant promoted its own standards, but market pressure and consumer expectations led to the long-awaited breakthrough. Samsung has officially announced the integration of Google Cast technology (formerly known as Chromecast) in its TIZEN Smart TV receivers. This is a historic step that bridges the gap between the Tizen system and the massive Google ecosystem.

Google Cast alongside Smart View and AirPlay

Until now, Samsung's strategy for wireless communication has been based on two pillars. Android smartphone users were encouraged (or rather forced) to use the proprietary solution Smart View, which, although functional, was primarily limited to full screen mirroring or working with selected applications within the Samsung ecosystem. Meanwhile, iPhone and iPad owners could use the AirPlay technology. The introduction of Google Cast here opens a new avenue or expands the functionality of Smart View. This feature will be natively built into the system, meaning users no longer need to purchase external Chromecast devices to sync their television with the entire Google ecosystem (e.g., Google Home).

What do we gain from Google Cast?

Unlike traditional screen mirroring (Smart View), Google Cast offers unique benefits:

  • Multitasking: You can send a film from the app to the television and continue using your phone (sending messages, browsing social media) without interrupting playback.

  • Battery saving: Once casting is initiated, the television itself fetches the data stream from the cloud, and the phone merely acts as a remote control.

  • Content queuing: The ability to create shared queues by multiple users simultaneously.

  • Smart Home: Google Cast should pave the way for pairing the television with the Tizen system with Google's proprietary Google Home solution.

Which models will receive the update?

Thanks to Samsung's policy of 7 years of support, we can count on this feature reaching even older devices.

  1. 2026 models: They will have Google Cast as a factory feature.

  2. 2025 and 2024 models: They will receive support through a firmware update to version v2115 or newer.

  3. 2023 models and earlier: Although 2023 models are receiving system updates as they are supported by 7-year warranties, support for Google Cast has not yet been officially confirmed for them.
