Gemini arrives on Google TV sets in Europe. TCL begins rolling out the new AI assistant.

Calendar 7/14/2026

Google has begun rolling out Gemini across Europe on televisions running Google TV. The new AI assistant replaces the existing Google Assistant, offering far more advanced voice-control capabilities. The first manufacturer to receive the update is TCL. Users will gain easier access to film searches, smart home control and personalised recommendations. This is another step by Google in the development of artificial intelligence on home entertainment devices.

Gemini changes how people use Google TV

Gemini has been developed as a new generation of Google's AI-powered voice assistant. It enables users to have more natural conversations with their TV without needing to use specific commands. The assistant helps search for movies and TV shows even when a viewer doesn't remember their title. Gemini can also answer questions, play music and control compatible smart home devices. The update began rolling out on selected 2026 TCL models from the X11L, C8L, C7L, RM9L and RM7L series. In the coming weeks the feature will also roll out to the manufacturer's more affordable models. Some TVs will first require an update to Android 14. The Gemini update itself is installed automatically over the internet and does not require manual user intervention. Google emphasises that the new assistant also allows convenient voice control of the TV's settings. The solution is intended to compete with Amazon Alexa+, Samsung's new Bixby and a future AI-based version of Siri. Thanks to AI, interacting with the TV should be much more intuitive than before. Google says it will further develop the feature in future updates. Eventually Gemini is expected to become the central element for controlling the whole Google TV ecosystem.

More brands will receive Gemini still in 2026

Google has confirmed that the rollout will not stop with TCL TVs. Selected 2025 and 2024 models, including those with the Pentonic 700 processor, will also receive the update. So far no timeline has been given for manufacturers such as Sony or other Google TV partners in Europe. However, it is known that in North America Gemini is already running on the Google TV Streamer device. At present the assistant supports English and French, but later this year the list of supported languages is due to be expanded. By the end of 2026 Google plans to make Gemini available on a larger number of Google TV devices running Android 14 or later. A minimum of 2 GB of RAM will also be required. The company is also developing new features for voice control of TV settings. Gemini is set to become one of the key elements of the Google TV platform in the coming years. The rollout will be phased and may still take several months.
