Remedy Entertainment has prepared a far more extensive difficulty customisation system in Control Resonant. Assist Mode will allow players to tweak individual mechanics instead of choosing one of several preset difficulty levels. Options will include, among others, enemy behaviour, damage, power regeneration and the timing of dodges. Importantly, the settings will work both ways, so they can be used to make gameplay either easier or more challenging. Control Resonant will arrive on PlayStation 5 on 24 September.

Assist Mode will let you change almost every element of combat

Control Resonant introduces a new combat system based on Dylan’s shape-shifting Aberrant weapon. Encounters will focus on close-range fighting and require reacting to enemy attacks, managing stuns and status effects. Remedy understands this system may take players some time to get used to, so instead of offering only a few difficulty levels it prepared much more detailed options. Assist Mode will allow you, among other things, to reduce enemy aggression if attacks from multiple directions become too overwhelming. You can also widen the Perfect Dodge timing window, so performing an ideal dodge requires less precise timing. Another setting is enemy projectile speed, which can be adjusted independently of other parameters. Players will also get separate sliders for damage taken, damage dealt, and Outgoing Falter strength, which affects how quickly an enemy’s posture breaks. For Dylan’s supernatural abilities you can increase power regeneration speed to make them easier to use during intense fights. There will also be an Enhanced Melee Magnetizing option to help with proper positioning during melee attacks. Players mainly interested in exploration and story will be able to use Immortality, One-Hit Kills and the new One-Hit Falters. This lets you significantly reduce the impact of combat on gameplay without changing all other mechanics. Assist Mode can be turned on or off at any time during play, so players won’t have to choose mechanics they haven’t learned yet before their first run. Remedy will also provide preset configuration sets that can be further customized to suit individual preferences.

Assist Mode can also increase the level of challenge

In Control Resonant, Assist Mode will not be used solely to simplify gameplay. Unlike the first game, the system will also allow players to raise the demands placed on them. You can increase enemy aggression, reduce the Perfect Dodge window and increase incoming damage. Such a combination of settings can create encounters far more demanding than those designed by the developers in the base game. Remedy wants to give more freedom to players who find the standard level of challenge too low. The studio emphasises that it has a clear vision of how tense and satisfying fights in Control Resonant should feel. At the same time, the developers do not want a difficult section to put players off continuing to play. If a particular mechanic proves to be a stumbling block, you will be able to change only that mechanic rather than lowering the overall difficulty. Assist Mode will not lock trophies or achievements. That means players can use the available settings without worrying that it will affect their ability to earn trophies. The solution is intended to let everyone tailor Control Resonant to their own playstyle and abilities. All of these options will be available during gameplay, so settings can be adjusted gradually as new mechanics are encountered. Control Resonant will launch on PS5 on 24 September, when players will be able to try the new combat system and expanded Assist Mode for the first time.

Control Resonant will offer much more detailed difficulty customisation than the first instalment. Assist Mode will allow many combat parameters to be adjusted independently, and the settings can be used both to make the game easier and to make it more challenging. The feature can be switched on and off at any time, and using it will not lock trophies. Remedy Entertainment's game will arrive on PS5 on 24 September.
