ASUS has quietly expanded its OLED monitor range with the ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDMSR. At first glance it looks like another 27-inch QHD gaming monitor, but the most significant changes are in the panel itself. The manufacturer is using a newer QD-OLED design here, which is said to be noticeably brighter than its predecessor.
XG27ACDMSR specifications
The ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDMSR has a 26.5-inch QD-OLED panel with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels. The maximum refresh rate is 320 Hz, and the specified response time is 0.03 ms GtG. So it is primarily a monitor aimed at gamers, although its image-related specifications are equally interesting.
According to Notebookcheck, the new model uses EL 3.0 materials and a five-layer construction called Penta Tandem. Compared with the previous XG27ACDMS, SDR brightness has increased from around 250 to 300 nits, while peak HDR brightness is said to reach 1300 nits. The monitor has also been awarded VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification.
Less sensitive QD-OLED
Another change is the layer BlackShield. According to ASUS, it is supposed to improve the perceived black level in a bright room by up to 40%, while also increasing the screen surface's scratch resistance by 2.5 times. This is especially important for QD-OLEDs, whose blacks can look worse under strong ambient lighting than in a dark room. The manufacturer also kept the OLED Care Pro system and the Neo Proximity Sensor presence sensor, which can turn off the screen when the user steps away from the desk.
So far ASUS has not given a price or a specific sales start date. However, the new model is already listed on the manufacturer's official website, so its market debut should be only a matter of time. What's most interesting, though, is that the next generation of QD-OLEDs is starting to address one of their biggest weaknesses.
