Apple is preparing one of the biggest changes to Siri in many years. According to new leaks, the voice assistant is set to undergo a massive overhaul along with iOS 27, but despite delays, Apple reportedly still plans to label the new Siri as a beta feature.
Apple is reportedly rebuilding Siri from the ground up
According to information from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple is working on a more advanced version of Siri reminiscent of modern AI chatbots. The assistant is expected to conduct conversations better, remember context, and offer deeper integration with applications and the iPhone system. Leaks also mention a new interface resembling a messenger and integration with Dynamic Island. Apple is also considering a separate Siri application that operates more like contemporary AI platforms such as OpenAI or Google Gemini.
Siri may still operate as a beta feature
However, the most interesting thing is that the internal versions of iOS 27 reportedly still label the new Siri as "beta". Users are even set to receive the ability to leave the Siri beta programme directly in the system settings. Apple has employed a similar solution before. The original Siri debuted as a beta after its launch in 2011, and the label was only removed two years later. This time, the company may want to safeguard itself against issues related to AI bugs, hallucinations, and underdeveloped features.
Apple is significantly late in the AI race
The revamped Siri was initially supposed to launch much earlier as part of Apple's Intelligence strategy. According to reports, however, the project has faced delays of up to two years. During this time, competitors such as ChatGPT and Gemini have greatly enhanced their conversational capabilities and integrations with everyday services. More and more users therefore consider Siri to be distinctly outdated compared to modern AI assistants.
However, Apple still wants to strongly emphasise privacy and a more controlled rollout of artificial intelligence features. Leaks suggest information about additional privacy safeguards and options for automatically deleting chat histories with Siri.
