Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone. When unfolded, the device offers a 7.6-inch display, while when closed it uses an external 5.4-inch screen. The manufacturer has fitted it with, among other things, an A20 Pro chip, a special vapour chamber and a dual battery system. The foldable design also opens up new possibilities for using the cameras and working with apps. The iPhone Duo will go on sale on 23 October, and its price in Poland starts at 9,999 zł.
iPhone Duo has two displays and an entirely new design
The biggest novelty in the iPhone Duo is, of course, its folding design, which lets you use the device in two completely different forms. When closed, the smartphone has a 5.4-inch external Super Retina XDR display, equivalent to 90 per cent of the iPhone 18 Pro's screen area. When unfolded it offers a 7.6-inch internal display, 50 per cent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max's screen. Apple has applied a nanostructured finish to reduce light reflections and glare. The company also says the solution helps reduce the visibility of the fold line. Both displays share the same aspect ratio, so apps and content retain a consistent appearance when switching between modes. The displays support ProMotion, and their peak outdoor brightness reaches 3,000 nits. The internal FaceTime camera is hidden under the display and does not take up extra space on its surface. Apple has also designed a special hinge made up of more than 100 components to provide smooth opening and closing. The hinge design supports the centre of the screen and keeps it flat when opened. Built-in magnets ensure both halves of the device close securely. The chassis is made from Grade 5 titanium and finished to a mirror polish. Apple also uses Ceramic Shield and Ceramic Shield 2, with the front layer said to be three times more scratch-resistant than the previous generation.
Cameras, iOS 27 and A20 Pro performance
The iPhone Duo received a main Fusion 48 MP camera that allows shooting at the full 48 MP resolution or using the default 24 MP mode. The camera uses a large sensor, a fast aperture and optical image stabilisation with sensor‑shift, which should improve low‑light results. It is paired with a Fusion 48 MP ultra wide camera capable of macro shots and a 2x optical‑quality zoom. The front Center Stage camera can automatically capture photos and videos in different orientations without having to rotate the phone. The foldable design also lets you use the external display as a preview when taking photos with the rear cameras. Duo Preview lets people being photographed check the composition before the shot is taken. Apple has also prepared a Smart Shutter feature that, thanks to AI models running on‑device, can automatically take a photo when it detects an appropriate pose in front of the camera. The iPhone Duo can record 4K Dolby Vision video at 120 fps, and cinematic effects can also be applied to already recorded footage at up to 60 fps. Performance is handled by the A20 Pro, manufactured on a 2 nm process, with a 6‑core CPU and a 7‑core GPU. Apple says the CPU is up to 20 per cent faster than the A19 Pro, the GPU up to 40 per cent faster, and the dual 16‑core Neural Engine provides twice the compute power for AI tasks. The chip is paired with a specially designed vapour chamber, allowing the iPhone Duo to sustain up to 35 per cent higher performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. The large display also takes advantage of iOS 27 features, including Split View mode that lets you run two apps side by side, or two windows of the same app. The system has been redesigned for the foldable form factor, with controls and navigation moved to the side to leave more room for the actual content.
iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable smartphone and one of the most unusual models in the company’s line-up this year. The device combines a 7.6-inch internal display with a 5.4-inch external screen, an A20 Pro chip and a comprehensive camera system. In Poland the smartphone will start at 9,999 zł, and customers will be able to begin pre-orders on 16 October. Regular sales of the iPhone Duo will start on 23 October 2026.
