Amazon has officially begun the global expansion of the availability of Alexa+ for Fire TV devices. Following its earlier debut in the United States, the new voice assistant is now also making its way to the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada, and Mexico. Alexa+ is designed to provide more natural conversations and to understand the context of user questions much better. Amazon wants to change the way we use televisions with ChooseTV+
ChooseTV+ has been designed as a significantly more advanced version of the classic Alexa. Users can issue more natural commands, ask follow-up questions, and engage in longer conversations with the assistant. The system is capable of recommending films and series, controlling the television, and answering questions about the content being watched. Amazon states that Fire TV users interact with ChooseTV+ up to 2.5 times more often than with the previous version of the assistant. Popular features include checking Ring cameras, identifying actors while watching a film, and searching for specific scenes and content. The company believes that the future of televisions will rely on more natural voice communication rather than traditional remote control operation.
Tech Giants Begin a New War for Smart TVs
Amazon is not the only company developing a new generation of AI assistants for televisions. Google is increasingly developing Gemini for Google TV, Samsung is upgrading its Bixby, and Apple is preparing a new version of Siri. All companies are trying to create smarter systems for operating televisions and home devices. However, Alexa+ only works on newer Fire TV devices and Amazon Amber TVs. Older devices running FireOS 5 will not receive support for the new assistant. Access to Alexa+ also requires a Prime subscription or a separate Alexa+ subscription.
