YouTube is testing a new "custom feed". The platform aims to change the way users discover videos.

YouTube clearly wants to further change the way content is discovered on its platform. The company has begun rolling out a new feature called Custom Feed, which allows users to generate their own channels of recommended videos based on descriptions they provide. Instead of simply searching for specific materials, the platform aims to offer more dynamic and constantly refreshed sets of content. The new option will appear alongside the classic search bar on the homepage. Users will be able to create their own "vibe" and personalise it according to specific interests. This is another step for YouTube towards an even more algorithmic and personalised experience.

YouTube will allow users to create their own recommended video channels

YouTube is adding a special button called Custom Feed, visible next to the search bar. Once opened, users can type in their own description of the materials they are interested in or use ready-made suggestions provided by the platform. Based on this, YouTube will create a special feed full of tailored videos. Importantly, the channel will be continuously refreshed and updated with new materials that fit the chosen theme. The platform aims to move away from the classic model of searching for individual videos and focus more on the continuous discovery of new content. Ready-made feeds can also be saved as special bookmarks visible at the top of the homepage.

YouTube algorithms will personalise content even more

The new feature shows that YouTube is increasingly focusing on personalising the entire user experience. The feed can be edited at any time, with additional context added if the displayed videos do not meet expectations. The platform clearly wants to create a more flexible recommendation system, resembling a conversation with AI rather than just a standard search. This feature will only work for logged-in users with an active viewing history. It is the data regarding previous materials that will help the algorithm match new content even more accurately. Currently, the Custom Feed is being rolled out to users in the USA on both smartphones and computers.

YouTube is experimenting with a new way to discover content and wants to transform classic search into more personalised recommendation channels. Custom Feed could be the next big step for the platform towards algorithmic viewing tailored to specific user interests.
